RATES

Barney’s House of Corrections offers our customers quality and affordability. Rates may vary with the complexity and details of your specific project. To discuss your project with Jeff, please call 575.571.9627.

Barney’s House of Corrections is a registered, licensed business with the City of Las Cruces and the State of New Mexico. New Mexico residents must pay the Gross Receipts Tax (GRT) which is currently 7.4375 percent. Out-of-state residents are not subject to this tax.

Current rates by service:

PROOFREADING

$15 per hour plus GRT for simple proofing.

COPY EDITING

In general, $20 per hour plus GRT.

Per page rates depend upon level of edit:
* A Heavy Edit, or Developmental-level Edit, requires extensive rewriting and restructuring. A Heavy Edit will generally run $5-6 per page.
* A Medium Edit generally requires minor recasting of sentences and a fair amount of grammatical and punctuation correction. $4-5/page.
* A Light Edit usually involves almost no recasting and mostly requires a close edit for consistency, etc. $3-4/page.

WRITING (ORIGINAL CONTENT)

The development of original content begins at $30 per hour. Rate is negotiated according to complexity of the project. For long-term projects, a price for the entire project can be negotiated.

RESEARCH FOR WRITING PROJECTS

If background research is required for a contracted original piece of writing, Barney’s House of Corrections charges a minimum of $10 per hour plus GRT. For more complex types of research, the fee is $20 per hour.

RETAINER FEE

For all projects expected to cost more than $100, a retainer fee must be paid to Barney’s House of Corrections.

PAYMENT OPTIONS

We are able to invoice you from this site for payment via Paypal and credit cards. For local clients, checks are also accepted.
